Splash It!

Flash Theatre

Synopsis

Splash It! is a multimedia flash play that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

The format of this flash play arose in response to the many traditional theatres being forced to close due to the pandemic. Given the pressure of high utility bills and venue rents on these organizations, Splash It! innovatively opted for the flash play format.

In terms of content, Splash It! addressed the psychological and economic pressures faced by China's working class during the pandemic. As a country where remote work was not widespread, the social distancing measures during the pandemic led many companies to suddenly require remote work. In the absence of relevant regulations and social norms, people found their psychological stress increasing rather than decreasing due to remote work. They struggled to balance life and work, being woken up at midnight and asked to showcase their home environments, among other challenges.

In this context, Splash It! conceptually designed and built a new flash theater in a square in Zhongguancun, Beijing's famous tech hub. Drawing on the contrasting spirits of Dionysus and Apollo, and reflecting the living conditions of the working class at that time, this conceptual multimedia play was created.
